Training

Your new career will begin with an intensive 7-week induction programme that includes practical sessions in an aircraft mock-up. It’s an excellent opportunity to bond with your team before taking to the skies.

Safety

Safety is our number one priority. All new Cabin Crew members undergo an intensive 7-week training course at our Safety Training School at Cathay Pacific City in Hong Kong. The course begins with theoretical lessons followed by practical sessions in a cabin mockup that will familiarise you with our operational safety procedures. In compliance with Civil Aviation Regulations, you’ll need to pass all safety assessments before being allowed to work on our aircraft.

    • Safety and security procedures and aircraft knowledge
Your training will commence on a specific aircraft type so that you can perfect emergency exit procedures through mockup runs. You will learn technical skills such as fire fighting, emergency equipment usage, aircraft door operation and life saving skills. By the end of the training you will have comprehensive knowledge on aircraft features and civil aviation regulations and be able to carry out all emergency duties including using the emergency slide raft.

    • Medical and situational handling
As a Cabin Crew member, you’re the person who our passengers depend on when medical situations occur inflight. Although many may be common, such as fainting and nosebleeds, you’ll need to respond quickly. Through team-based training, you will learn essential skills such as CPR, first aid treatment and equipment usage, and how to reassure passengers in unexpected situations.

  • Crew resource management
Communication is a key factor in maintaining a safe environment on board. We will train you on how to communicate concisely within your team and how to report on safety related issues.

Service

We hire for attitude and train for skills. Featuring classroom training and cabin mockup sessions, our service training prepares you for the challenges ahead. You will learn how to present yourself in uniform and acquire practical and life skills that will be useful in your career. Each training component is intensive but rewarding. By completion, not only will you develop new friendships that last a lifetime, you will also gain personal confidence and be ready to deliver inflight service that is voted the world’s best*.

    • Service standards and safe working practices
Through team building activities, cabin mockup practices and inflight communication training, you will learn new knowledge and skills such as food and beverage handling, catering for passengers with special dietary needs, proper service etiquettes and equipment usage. As duties of a Cabin Crew can be physically demanding, you will also learn how to work effectively and safely through Occupational Health and Safety practices.

  • Customs and excise service ordinance
Flying to different routes means that there will be different local regulations to follow. During service training, you will study the customs and excise regulations of our operating ports. In addition, you will gain awareness of the specific procedures required for handling bonded items, especially when special handling is required.
  • On the job training
Before your first operating flight, you will go on an observation flight to familiarise yourself with the cabin working environment. Progressively, you will be trained on all Cathay Pacific aircraft types.
